Kennel Club of Palm Springs is an open membership club with current members in the Palm Springs area, the High Desert and other Southern Californian locations. Our members are breeders, exhibitors and pet owners devoted to dogs and their welfare. Prospective members are asked to attend two out of three consecutive meetings in order to get to know the membership and the way in which the club operates. Our members are expected to help at our annual dog shows and may not show in conformation at those shows.
Our meetings are the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM and are held at the Palm Springs Police Department in the library. The Police Department is at 200 South Civic Drive off Tahquitz in Palm Springs. Well behaved dogs are welcome. There are no meetings in July or August and the December is a Holiday party usually held in a different location.
Organized in 1978 by Robert and Lois Waters, Margaret and Fred Young and Major and Beatrice Godsol to educate members and the general public about purebred dogs; to conduct purebred dog activities and to promote sportsman-like competition at these events.

Our first American Kennel Club licensed show was held at the Palm Springs Pavilion on January 8, 1984, with 2183 entries. Best in Show was judged by Robert Waters. The Show Chairman was Jim Hohe, and Assistant Show Chair was Lilian Barber. The first back-to-back shows were held in January 1994.
Kennel Club of Palm Springs Dog Shows have been listed among the five largest shows in the country by AKC for quite a number of years, most of those as the largest. There are now several group shows, plus sixteen or more breed specialties during the two days preceding our all-breed shows, resulting in majors galore. KCPS will also offer Obedience and Rally trials at the same location beginning on January 5, 6, 7 and 8, 2017. Separate Obedience training classes are held during the fall, winter and early spring, at the Palm Springs Police Department. For more information regarding obedience and/or agility, please contact Jim Thomson. Our current outdoor show site is the beautiful Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, with plenty of tenting for both judging and grooming, and lovely, short grass. Our grounds are located in a resort area with lots of related amenities.
